Terms of use
Last updated 4 November 2026
The short version: the site is free and for education only, be honest and kind, never ask anyone for passwords or personal numbers, and check important decisions with a qualified professional.
Pending legal review
This text describes how the site works today. It is awaiting review by our counsel and may change; we will tell members about material changes.1. This agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and BTU Builders LLC ("BTU", "we"), which runs Beyond the Uniform. By using the site or registering, you agree to them and to how our privacy notice describes your information. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
You must be 18 or older to register. The site is meant for people in the United States.
2. Education only, not advice
Beyond the Uniform provides education only and is not affiliated with the VA or DoD. BTU is not a government agency, and no government body endorses us or anything listed here.
- Everything on the site is general education. It is not legal, financial, tax, investment, medical, mental health or benefits advice, and it does not create a professional relationship with anyone.
- Nothing here is an offer of, or a recommendation to buy, any investment or security. BTU is not an investment and does not offer one.
- Rules and benefits change. Check anything important with the official source or a qualified professional before you act on it. You decide what to do with what you learn here.
3. Emergencies
The site is not an emergency or crisis service, and our team does not watch posts or messages around the clock. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911. For the Veterans Crisis Line, call or text 988 and press 1, or text 838255. Get help now never needs an account.
4. Listings, partners and links
- Directory listings and links to other sites are offered for convenience. Unless a listing says otherwise, we have not vetted the provider, and a listing is not an endorsement or a guarantee. Any agreement you make with a provider is between you and them.
- BTU has business relationships with some partners and may be paid by them. Today those partners are GFI and LegalShield. We aim to label every page that features a partner; tell us if you find one that isn't labeled. Our partners don't get our member list, and you choose whether to contact them.
- Reviews must be your honest experience. We don't pay for reviews or edit them to change their meaning, and we don't remove them just because they are negative.
5. BTU Builders and Ambassadors
Applying to BTU Builders or the Ambassador program does not guarantee acceptance. These programs are not employment, and joining one does not make you our employee, agent or partner. Any role, payment or commitment is set out only in a separate written agreement signed by BTU.
6. Our content and name
The site's design, text, pictures and the Beyond the Uniform name and marks belong to BTU or its licensors. You may view and share pages for personal, non-commercial use. Don't copy the site, or use our name or marks in a way that suggests we endorse you. Military branch names are used only to describe who a resource serves, not to claim endorsement.
Copyright complaints. If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, email hello@btubuilders.com with: your contact details; the work; the exact page and material; a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and you are the owner or authorized to act; and your signature. We remove material when the law requires and close the accounts of repeat infringers.
7. Ending your use
You can ask us to delete your waitlist account any time by emailing hello@btubuilders.com. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts others at risk, or where the law requires it. We will tell you why unless doing so would put someone at risk or break the law. Sections 6 and 11 to 14 continue after an account ends.
8. No warranty
The site is free and is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, BTU makes no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or that its information is complete, accurate or current, and disclaims all implied warranties, including of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
9. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows: BTU and its owners, staff and volunteers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or opportunities, arising from the site or anything learned, posted or arranged through it; and BTU's total liability for any claim about the site is limited to one hundred US dollars. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or injury caused by negligence.
You agree to cover BTU's reasonable costs from a claim by someone else that arises from content you posted or from your breaking these terms.
10. Disagreements
If you have a problem with us, email hello@btubuilders.com first; we will try in good faith to settle it within 30 days. These terms are governed by the laws of Wyoming and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any claim must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there. Where the law allows, claims are brought individually, not as part of a class.
11. Changes and the rest
We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new date and, for material changes, tell people on the waitlist before they take effect; continuing to use the site afterwards means you accept them. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver. You may not transfer these terms; we may transfer them to a successor that runs the site. These terms and the privacy notice are the whole agreement about the site. Your BTU Builders portal account, once the portal opens, has its own terms. Version 2026-11-draft-3.
